![]() The Compass Card is a prepaid, contactless card system introduced in 2015. As of Sep 1 2021, children 12 and under can ride free. Reduced concession fares apply to seniors 65+, and youth (13-18). Zone 1 includes Vancouver while Zone 2 expands to North Vancouver (seabus), Burnaby and Richmond. Accurate, real-time route planning is available when you use google maps. Buses only accept exact change, tap to pay credit cards, or Compass Card. Ticket machines at stations accept credit cards, bills and coins (Canadian currency only). Fares start at $3.10 (one zone or all zones evenings after 6:30pm and weekends and holidays - Jul 2022) with a 90 minute transfer and $11 for a daypass (good til end of service day, all zones). Vancouver has an elevated light rail system called Skytrain. Tripling the GST charged on your restaurant bill is an easy way to figure out a 15% tip. Restaurant meals are exempt from PST though alcohol will be taxed 10%. Purchases and services will incur a 5% federal sales tax (GST) plus an additional 7% provincial sales tax (PST). Though any bank will readily exchange USD, you will get better rates at VBCE 800 West Pender St, Everforex 489 Richards St, or Charlies Currency Exchange 827 Granville St Few retailers, if any, accept Discover and Amex. Mastercard and Visa credit cards are widely accepted including tap payments though Canadian systems use chip and pin versus chip and signature in the US. When dining in restaurants, tips between 15-20% are expected since restaurant workers typically make minimum wage. US dollars are widely accepted though you may get a poor exchange rate and your change back in Canadian money. The penny was eliminated in 2013 and cash transactions are rounded to the nearest 5 cents. Coins are used for denomination $2 and under and plastic polymer notes were introduced in 2011. Vancouver downtown hotels which have local shuttles, which means to the cruise terminal, are Best Western on Drake, Hampton Inn and Suites on Robson, Loden has a London Black Cab and the Executive Hotel Vintage Park has a shuttle between 10h30 am and 1 pm.Canada's currency is the Canadian Dollar (CAD). That said, they include a lot in the rate: comes with international long distance calls, wifi, hot cooked to order breakfast, from a menu. and wanting to get people back to staying there. I'm not sure the room rates now are the value they used to be when they were first renovated a few years ago. ![]() Regis which is centre city, on a variety of bus lines, accessible to everything because of that, and by walking. You might also look at Times Square Suites which has a good rep here and is on the western edge of downtown very close to Stanley Park and English Ba, about $15 for a cab. And on the other side of the hotel the same from Gastown. ![]() The benefits would be $12 cab ride to the terminal, step right out "into the city" on Robson St. If you would like a mid-range hotel you might look at the Blue Horizon Hotel on Robson St. So any hotel would do, the "farthest" from the terminal would cost about $15 for a taxi. I would say that all of downtown is handy to the cruise ship terminal. Our Canada Line light rail train/subway has made it very easy to ride from the airport to downtown in about 25 minutes. There are no hotels in downtown Van with shuttles to the airport.
